Partisan Sabotage Disrupts Russian Military Rail Logistics
UKRAINE, November 2025 — Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) has revealed a growing campaign of sabotage operations targeting Russian rail infrastructure, carried out by partisan movements inside the Russian Federation and in occupied territories. These actions are increasingly disrupting the rail lines that underpin Moscow’s military logistics.
According to HUR and associated reports, sabotage incidents including arson, explosions, track destruction and relay‑cabinet attacks — have been reported across multiple regions of Russia and occupied Ukraine. Some of the affected areas include the Rostov region, Zaporizhzhia‑occupied territories, Chuvashia and the Orel/Kursk corridor. Each represents a key route supporting the flow of fuel, equipment and personnel toward the front lines.
One notable operation in the Zaporizhzhia region disabled a major rail segment in June 2025 and reportedly caused a halt in Russian military freight traffic for over a week. Another in Chuvashia is claimed to have derailed a military train near Myslets, halting supplies from the Volga‑Ural region. These incidents illustrate the tactical shift toward targeting static infrastructure rather than solely mobile assets.
The implications are significant: by disrupting rail‑based logistics, these operations compel Russian forces to reroute, delay, or reduce supplies and personnel rotations. Analysts suggest this can lead to cascading inefficiencies in offensive operations and reduce the tempo of attacks.
The sustained nature of the campaign signals a long‑term shift in warfare logistics. Railways form the backbone of Russia’s heavy transport capability, and deterioration of this system could increasingly strain Moscow’s ability to sustain front‑line operations. HUR’s growing reports of rail disruption underscore the evolving nature of hybrid warfare in which infrastructure and supply chains become battlegrounds in their own right.
