Poltava Oblast Railway Infrastructure Damaged in Russian Attack, Disrupting Services

POLTAVA OBLAST, SEPTEMBER 2025 — Railway infrastructure in Poltava Oblast was damaged during a large-scale Russian attack overnight on 6–7 September 2025, according to Ukraine’s state-run rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia. The strike disrupted key transportation links, forcing adjustments to train schedules and alternative travel arrangements.

Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that services on routes including Odesa–Kharkiv and trains bound for Kremenchuk have been rerouted or rescheduled. In coordination with local authorities, some passengers are being transported by bus to continue their journeys.

The damage has created major operational challenges, affecting both service reliability and passenger movement. The need for detours and substitute transport highlights the immediate impact of the attack on regional rail connectivity.

This incident comes just a day after a similar strike on 6 September targeted railway infrastructure in Donetsk Oblast, leading to delays and service interruptions there. The repeated attacks suggest a deliberate effort to disrupt Ukraine’s transport network.

Despite the challenges, Ukrzaliznytsia has already launched restoration efforts and pledged to maintain passenger services wherever possible. The company’s response reflects the resilience of Ukraine’s rail sector in the face of ongoing threats, with broader implications for logistics and regional economic stability.
