Prasarana Malaysia Reports Doubled Rail Reliability in 2025 Amidst Strategic Upgrades
KUALA LUMPUR, September 2025 — Rail services operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have demonstrated a substantial increase in reliability throughout 2025, marking a significant improvement in operational performance across the nation's public transport network. This surge in dependability is a testament to the company's strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing commuter experience and service quality.
As of July 2025, Prasarana recorded a Mean Kilometre Between Failure (MKBF) of 0.54 million km, accompanied by only 24 disruptions. This represents a more than twofold improvement compared to the 0.33 million km MKBF and 71 disruptions observed in 2024, and a considerable leap from the 0.16 million km MKBF and 118 disruptions in 2023.
These gains are attributed to key strategic measures, including the implementation of a Condition-Based Maintenance program, mid-life refurbishments for the Ampang Line trains, and crucial upgrades to the signalling systems on the Kajang Line. These efforts underscore Prasarana's commitment to operational excellence and passenger safety.
The positive trajectory aligns with recent leadership changes, including the appointment of Amir Hamdan as President and Group CEO and Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad as Chairman. Prasarana now plans to extend the MKBF benchmark to its bus operations, aiming to elevate service standards across all transport modes.
This enhanced rail reliability positions Prasarana as a leading public transport provider in Malaysia, setting a benchmark for service quality and operational efficiency within the region's rapidly developing rail sector.
