Rail Commuters Demand Express Train Stops at Tiruverumbur Station

TIRUCHI, October 2025 — The growing population and development in areas like Tiruverumbur necessitate improved rail connectivity. Residents are increasingly advocating for enhanced services at the local station to reduce reliance on major junctions.

Members of the Thiruverumbur Train Users Federation recently staged a demonstration to press their demands. These include halting all express trains on the Tiruchi–Thanjavur broad‐gauge line at Tiruverumbur station, ensuring trains use Platform 1 for passenger convenience, and creating a direct passage from the bus stand by modifying the station compound wall. They also requested construction of a canopy and a cement-surface parking area for two-wheelers.

These proposed halts would significantly benefit many travelers from Tiruverumbur and its vicinity, who currently travel to Tiruchi Junction to board express trains. The change would offer greater convenience and accessibility for both daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

Federation President S. Sakthivel highlighted that accommodating express-train halts at Tiruverumbur would make travel more convenient for a substantial number of passengers. The demand for a direct passage from the bus stand also aims to reduce travel time and effort for those carrying luggage.

This local initiative reflects a broader trend of demands for improved suburban rail infrastructure and passenger amenities, underscoring the evolving needs of communities located near major urban centres.
