Taiwan HSR Adjusts Services Amid Typhoon Podul
**AUGUST 2025, TAIPEI** — As Typhoon Podul approached Taiwan, the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) implemented service adjustments on Wednesday to prioritize passenger safety. Normal operations were maintained until 2 p.m., after which the line operated three all-stop, non-reserved seat trains per hour, excluding business class. These trains departed from Nangang Station in Taipei and Zuoying Station in Kaohsiung hourly and at 20 and 40 minutes past the hour. The final departures from Nangang were at 9:40 p.m. to Zuoying and 10:40 p.m. to Taichung, while the last trains from Zuoying left at 9:40 p.m. to Nangang and 10:40 p.m. to Taichung.
The schedule changes were based on ongoing weather updates and safety assessments. Passengers holding tickets issued during the typhoon warning period are eligible for full refunds without service fees within one year from the original travel date. Travelers who switched to lower-fare classes can also claim the fare difference at station ticket counters within the same timeframe.
THSRC further emphasized that trains would operate at reduced speeds if wind speeds or rainfall surpassed safety thresholds. Delays caused by these precautionary measures would not qualify for the standard delay compensation policy. Passengers were advised to allow extra time for transfers and onward connections.
The adjustments highlight the importance of proactive safety measures and flexible operations for rail networks in regions frequently impacted by natural disasters, ensuring both minimal disruption and the well-being of passengers.
