Thailand Invest in Rail Cybersecurity and Passenger WI-FI Systems

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has signed a major contract with ROCTEC Global, in collaboration with SKY ICT and United Telecom, to deploy a high-speed fibre optic telecommunications network across Thailand’s rail system.

With over 30 years of experience in ICT and a proven track record in railway tech (including Hong Kong), ROCTEC will lead the design and implementation of a digital backbone to power future-ready rail operations.

The project includes the installation of over 3,000 kilometers of fibre optic infrastructure, deployment of DWDM and IP/MPLS systems for high-capacity data transmission, integration of IP telephony, CCTV, and Wi-Fi services, implementation of an advanced cybersecurity framework, and the establishment of a centralized Network Operations Centre for real-time system monitoring and management.

“This initiative is a critical step toward digital rail transformation—enhancing communication, safety, and operational efficiency while supporting future high-speed rail integration,” said ROCTEC CEO Weng Sam Lam.

Set for completion within two years, the project aligns with Thailand’s national infrastructure goals and reinforces SRT’s role in ASEAN’s smart mobility future.
