Turkmenistan to Host 84th CIS Rail Transport Council Meeting in Ashgabat
ASHGABAT, November 2025 — Turkmenistan has been selected to host the 84th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in May 2026. This significant event, decided following the Council's 83rd session in Baku, highlights the ongoing commitment to enhancing regional rail infrastructure and cooperation among member nations.
The meeting is slated to take place in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, and is expected to draw senior officials from the railway administrations of numerous CIS countries. These include Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, alongside representatives from Georgia, Iran, Armenia, Latvia, and Estonia who attended the prior session.
The gathering will also include delegates from key international and regional bodies such as the Organization for Cooperation of Railways, the CIS Executive Committee, and the International Confederation of Railway Workers’ Trade Unions. Their presence underscores the broad regional and international engagement aimed at advancing rail transport cooperation.
This upcoming summit in Ashgabat will serve as a crucial platform for discussing strategies to modernize rail networks, improve operational efficiency, and expand freight and passenger services.
