UAE's Etihad Rail to Integrate with Al Maktoum International Airport by 2030

NOVEMBER 2025 — DUBAI, UAE — The United Arab Emirates' Etihad Rail network is set to integrate with Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) by 2030, a move poised to significantly enhance regional transportation and logistics capabilities. This strategic development is a key component of the UAE's broader vision to solidify its status as a premier global hub for travel and commerce.

The planned rail-air spine, scheduled for a 2026 launch, is anticipated to accommodate 36.5 million passengers annually. This initiative complements Dubai's substantial investments in its aviation infrastructure, including a $34.8 billion expansion at DWC aimed at boosting its capacity to 260 million passengers per year. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport (DXB) continues to report robust passenger numbers, having served 46 million travelers in the first half of 2025.

The integration is expected to yield substantial benefits, including the redistribution of passenger and cargo demand, a reduction in highway congestion, and improved schedule reliability, especially during peak travel times or challenging weather conditions. This synergy between rail and air transport is designed to future-proof the corridor and optimize the overall flow of travelers.

Operational complexities and strategic planning are central to managing the transition between airports and integrating new transport modes, with technologies such as AI and biometrics being leveraged to streamline passenger experiences. The success of this integration hinges on achieving critical milestones, such as the 2026 passenger launch, successful integration testing at DWC terminals, and the full operationalization of rail-enabled check-in processes.

Ultimately, this rail-airport linkage represents a forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development, aiming to establish a seamless, efficient, and resilient transportation ecosystem that supports economic growth and elevates the travel experience across the region.
