The enforcement action follows the LRT collision incident on 24 May 2021, which occurred between the KLCC and Kampung Baru stations. The incident was attributed to maintenance shortcomings, where the operator failed to ensure safe train operations, resulting in two trains occupying the same track in opposing directions.
The collision involved 213 passengers, with 65 reported injuries, raising serious concerns about operational safety and system integrity.
APAD emphasized that operational safety in public land transport cannot be compromised under any circumstances. The penalty serves not only as enforcement of regulatory compliance but also as a clear warning to all rail service operators to adhere strictly to technical standards and safety protocols.
The decision to impose the fine also reflects the need to uphold public accountability and system integrity within Malaysia’s rail network. APAD reiterated its commitment to enhancing monitoring and enforcement activities to ensure operators fully comply with regulatory, operational, and safety requirements.
