Etihad Rail And Etihad Airways Plan Integrated Air-Rail Connectivity

United Arab Emirates, September 2026 — Etihad Rail and Etihad Airways have agreed to explore measures that could create a more integrated travel experience between air and rail services in the UAE. The partnership comes after Etihad Rail launched passenger services earlier in 2026, expanding the national railway’s role in intercity mobility.

Under the memorandum, the companies will assess a dedicated shuttle service connecting Zayed International Airport with Mohamed bin Zayed City Station. The proposed connection is intended to make transfers between air and rail more convenient, while supporting journeys that combine both modes of transport.

The two companies will also examine the possibility of an integrated air-and-rail booking system and passenger services at railway stations. Such integration could allow travellers to plan different segments of a journey through a more coordinated booking and transfer process rather than treating air and rail as separate services.

For the rail sector, the initiative demonstrates how new passenger railway networks can be integrated with established aviation infrastructure to expand their effective catchment areas. Airport connections can also support passenger growth by linking rail services with international travel flows and reducing reliance on separate road-based transfers.

The partnership reflects a wider shift toward multimodal transport systems in which rail, aviation and other modes are coordinated around a single passenger journey. As Etihad Rail develops its national passenger network, integration with airports and airline services could become an important component of its approach to network connectivity and passenger services.
